Physical AI company Makinarocks said on Tuesday it will work with Samsung Display to apply AI-based equipment control optimisation technology at the company’s Vietnam plant.
The cooperation aims to apply the solution to the Vietnam plant’s mass-production lines by year-end, based on the results of a proof of concept conducted in the first half of this year.
Production equipment at manufacturing sites operates according to command code stored in programmable logic controllers, or PLCs. If code accumulates over a long period during process changes and responses to new products, PLC memory, which has limited capacity, can run short. Reconfiguring equipment or production lines to address memory shortages can create time and cost burdens due to factory shutdowns.
Makinarocks applied a method in which a large language model analyses the entire PLC codebase and automatically identifies code left over from past processes, as well as duplicate and unused commands. The key is to secure additional PLC memory capacity without replacing equipment or halting production.
Makinarocks verified code analysis accuracy and resource-saving effects on actual production lines at Samsung Display’s Vietnam plant. It also plans to expand areas of AI cooperation that can be applied to display manufacturing processes.
Makinarocks CEO Seongho Yoon (윤성호) said, "We have moved beyond a proof of concept and will push to apply AI on actual mass-production lines at advanced manufacturing sites." He said, "We will support productivity innovation at manufacturing companies through physical AI."
