Xiaomi's target of delivering 550,000 electric vehicles in 2026 appears difficult to achieve at the current sales pace, electric-vehicle outlet Cleantechnica reported on Aug. 12 local time.
Xiaomi's cumulative vehicle deliveries through July 2026 stood at 216,322. That was less than half of the annual target.
The issue is timing. The year has already passed its midpoint by more than a month, and only 5 months remain. Xiaomi has set a goal of delivering 550,000 vehicles this year, but the gap is significant based on its cumulative performance so far.
Deliveries in July also fell short of the level needed to meet the target. Xiaomi delivered 31,267 vehicles in July. If the same trend continues, annual results may fall well short of the target.
Still, it is hard to say Xiaomi's electric-vehicle business itself is struggling. Xiaomi entered the annual sales range of several hundred thousand vehicles about 2 years after first bringing its electric vehicles to market. The outlet also said that not many companies reach sales of 500,000 vehicles in a single year just a few years after entering the market, and assessed Xiaomi's growth pace itself as exceptional.
Xiaomi was seen as one of the companies drawing attention in the electric-vehicle market in 2024 and 2025. It entered the electric-vehicle business quickly based on brand strength built as a consumer technology company, and the market has watched how much that brand competitiveness would translate into electric-vehicle sales. Against this backdrop, this year's 550,000 target was seen as aggressive but accepted as a figure showing an intention to expand the business.
The key point now is whether deliveries will expand in the second half. Cleantechnica said it could not fully rule out the possibility because deliveries sometimes rise sharply toward year-end. But based on the current monthly sales pace alone, it needs an increase beyond the existing trend to meet the target.
As a result, Xiaomi's electric-vehicle business is showing two things at the same time. One is rapid expansion, posting sales of several hundred thousand vehicles despite being in the early stage of market entry. The other is that the target set by the company itself is ahead of the actual sales pace. How much Xiaomi can raise deliveries in the remaining 5 months, or whether it adjusts the electric-vehicle division's target, is emerging as a key variable in the second half.
