KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Woori and IBK Industrial Bank of Korea reported financial incidents totaling 49 billion won from fraud by external parties. KB Kookmin made a new disclosure, while Shinhan, Woori and IBK raised the incident amounts previously disclosed and filed corrections.
On Aug. 13, the financial sector said KB Kookmin on the previous day disclosed a financial incident worth 3,577,900,000 won related to loan fraud that occurred from September 2023 to December 2024.
The company said the loan fraud involved a real estate developer and fake buyers, and an investigation is under way.
Shinhan Bank revised its financial incident amount to 17,343,550,000 won. It first disclosed 2,964,400,000 won on Dec. 29 last year and raised it to 6,968,900,000 won in June this year. The amount increased again as additional damage was confirmed.
Woori Bank also raised the financial incident amount to 9,870,000,000 won from about 4 billion won it disclosed in June. The incident period was from August 2024 to April 2025.
IBK Industrial Bank of Korea revised the financial incident amount to 18,220,000,000 won from 4,780,000,000 won it disclosed in June. The case is currently under investigation by investigative authorities.
