Naver said on Sunday it signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute for Lifelong Education to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) and digital capabilities for seniors and digitally excluded groups.

Naver signed the agreement with the institute on Aug. 7 at its headquarters, Naver 1784. Through the partnership, the two sides plan to jointly develop and distribute AI and digital lifelong-education content and expand lifelong-learning opportunities for seniors.

They also plan to jointly produce digital literacy textbooks based on the Whale browser. The textbooks will include instructions on how to use services such as Naver Shopping and Whale browser functions.

Wol-yong Kim (김월용), president of the National Institute for Lifelong Education, said Naver's technology in the era of generative AI could be linked to the education field to close the digital literacy gap. He said the two sides would connect their infrastructure to work toward universal lifelong-education welfare.

Yun-sook Lee (이윤숙), head of Naver's shopping business division, said Naver would advance various services for the era of AI commerce. She said the company would also step up educational support through the agreement so that AI-based services, including Naver Shopping, can be used as tools.
