Webzen said on Wednesday that its second-quarter operating profit fell 8.4 percent from a year earlier to 5.7 billion won.

Second-quarter revenue fell 2.8 percent to 38.0 billion won, and net profit declined 6.4 percent to 6.3 billion won.

The company said the revenue decline, driven by the absence of new game launches, affected the latest results. On a cumulative basis for the first half, it posted revenue of 77.3 billion won and operating profit of 11.0 billion won.

Webzen plans to sequentially disclose information on new games it has been preparing in the second half of this year and begin full-scale preparations for releases.

First, "Project D1", under development by its subsidiary Webzencrevics, is a 2.5D hybrid-genre game based on the intellectual property of the Naver Webtoon "I Became the Tyrant of the Defense Game". It plans to disclose game information in the second half and specify the development schedule, aiming for a release next year. The strategy defense game "Gate of Gates" will also provide additional information in the second half.

It is also preparing other titles, including "Project G", a large-scale new game using Unreal Engine 5 based on the "MU" intellectual property, and the subculture game "Terbis", which has entered a revamp after a closed beta test. It also plans to continue exploring ways to expand its market share overseas by using existing intellectual property such as "MU" and "Metin".

Webzen CEO Taeyoung Kim (김태영) said, "We are preparing an aggressive business schedule in the second half to promote new games that have become visible for next year," and added, "We will continue efforts to enhance shareholder value, including fulfilling the payment of the planned special dividend, and continue investing in the game business to prepare for mid- to long-term growth."
