Kakao Enterprise has appointed former business division head Lee Jae-han (이재한) as its new chief executive and is moving to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure business.

Kakao Enterprise said on Wednesday it appointed Lee as its new CEO after holding an extraordinary shareholders meeting and board meeting.

Lee has led overall commercialisation at Kakao Enterprise, serving as head of cloud infrastructure, head of the digital transformation (DX) division and head of the business division. Before joining, he served as a systems engineering leader at Kakao, overseeing the design and operation of KakaoTalk's infrastructure architecture.

Kakao Enterprise plans under Lee's leadership to maintain continuity in its key businesses, including AI infrastructure and hybrid GPUaaS (GPU-as-a-service). It also plans to strengthen its capabilities to lead AI transformation (AX) to secure corporate and institutional clients and lay the groundwork for growth.

Lee said, "In the new paradigm being created by AI, we are facing a turning point where AI data centres, cloud infrastructure and AI platforms are becoming more important." He said, "Based on Kakao Enterprise's cloud expertise and technological capabilities, we will lead AI transformation and drive change across the industry."
