Enterprise AI company Cohere is stepping up its expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.

Cohere held a press briefing on Tuesday at the Westin Josun Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul. It said it plans to set up local units in South Korea and Japan, strengthen cooperation with Singapore’s public sector, and double its technology and sales headcount in the region by the end of this year.

Cohere has rapidly expanded its regional business since opening an Asia-Pacific hub in Seoul last year, led by Hwa-jin Jang (장화진), president for Asia-Pacific at Cohere.

It is now working to set up units in South Korea and Japan. In South Korea, it will directly hire field development engineers, in addition to the sales organisation, to support companies in building customised AI.

Jang said, "Within 3 months, it will be possible to establish the South Korea and Japan units. I cannot speak specifically about the size of the South Korea unit, but it will be a fairly large one in the double digits."

Cohere said it plans to expand partnerships with companies and government agencies based on the business foundation it has built in South Korea, Japan and Singapore. It aims to enter the next growth stage for its Asia-Pacific business.

Cohere said it plans to quadruple its business footprint in the region by the end of 2027, including by opening new offices in Asia-Pacific. It also aims to expand its regional customer base by more than three times over the next year, it said.

She added, "Cohere continues to invest in building long-term sovereign AI capabilities with local partners in the region." She added, "This expansion reflects actual customer demand and the trust we have built by providing safe and reliable AI systems in large-scale environments."
