KakaoBank posted a net profit of 328.0 billion won in the first half of this year, marking its best half-year result. Second-quarter operating profit and net profit also rose by double digits from a year earlier.

KakaoBank said on Tuesday first-half operating revenue rose 5.5 percent from a year earlier to 1.65 trillion won. Net profit increased 24.4 percent to 328.0 billion won, but operating profit fell 0.5 percent to 351.6 billion won.

First-half loan interest income rose 5.9 percent from a year earlier to 1.06 trillion won. Non-interest income increased 4.8 percent to 589.5 billion won and accounted for 36 percent of total operating revenue. Fee and platform revenue rose 10.5 percent to 169.6 billion won.

Second-quarter operating revenue rose 6.5 percent from a year earlier to 829.0 billion won. Operating profit increased 14 percent to 194.0 billion won and net profit rose 11.5 percent to 140.8 billion won. Loan interest income rose 9.1 percent to 542.4 billion won, while non-interest income increased 2.1 percent to 286.6 billion won.

Deposits outstanding stood at 67.11 trillion won at the end of the second quarter, up 5.4 percent from a year earlier.

Loans outstanding rose 7.7 percent to 48.22 trillion won. Outstanding loans to individual business owners increased by 284.0 billion won from the previous quarter to 3.69 trillion won.

Second-quarter net interest margin was 2.13 percent, up 0.21 percentage point from a year earlier. The delinquency rate fell 0.01 percentage point to 0.51 percent, and the ratio of substandard or below loans was 0.54 percent.
