Woori Bank has launched deposit and savings products to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of independence activist Kim Gu and Liberation Day. Customers who take part in “Leaving Our Wish,” writing what they hope South Korea will be like, can receive maximum annual interest rates of 3.60 percent on the time deposit and 8.29 percent on the savings product.

Woori Bank said on Sunday it had launched the customer-participation products “Our Wish Time Deposit” and “Our Wish Savings.”

The products were prepared after UNESCO designated 2026 as the “150th anniversary of Kim Gu’s birth” at its 43rd General Conference in 2025. Woori Bank explained it reflected in the products the meanings of “My Wish” and “A Beautiful Country” contained in Kim Gu’s “Baekbeom Ilji.”

“Our Wish Time Deposit” is sold with 6-month and 12-month maturities. The base interest rate is 3.10 percent a year for 6 months and 3.40 percent a year for 12 months, and customers receive a preferential rate of 0.20 percentage point if they take part in “Leaving Our Wish.” The maximum rate including the preferential rate is 3.30 percent a year for 6 months and 3.60 percent a year for 12 months.

The subscription amount ranges from 1 million won to 100 million won, and the total sales cap is 1 trillion won. The bank will sell the products on a first-come, first-served basis until the cap is reached, through Aug. 31.

“Our Wish Savings” also comes in 6-month and 12-month terms. The base interest rate is 4.29 percent a year for 6 months and 3.00 percent a year for 12 months. The bank offers preferential rates of 2.00 percentage points each for taking part in “Leaving Our Wish” and meeting the condition of not holding Woori Bank deposit or savings products for the previous six months.

If all preferential conditions are met, the 6-month product applies a maximum annual rate of 8.29 percent by adding a preferential rate of 4.00 percentage points to the base annual rate of 4.29 percent. The 12-month product has a maximum annual rate of 7.00 percent by adding a preferential rate of 4.00 percentage points to the base annual rate of 3.00 percent.

The bank is also running a package subscription event to mark the launch. Eligible customers are those who subscribe to at least 10 million won in the time deposit, pay 500,000 won a month into the savings product, and then complete participation in “Leaving Our Wish” and an entry on the event page. Woori Bank will provide three types of commemorative items marking the 150th anniversary of Kim Gu’s birth through a lottery draw.

Young Lee (이영), a team leader at Woori Bank’s Retail Product Marketing Department, said the bank prepared the products to reflect with customers on the meaning of the “beautiful country” Kim Gu dreamed of and to help one person’s wish lead to a better tomorrow for South Korea. He said the bank would expand cultural finance that spreads cultural and social value based on customer participation.
