Kakao said on Sunday that Ryan, a Kakao Friends character it operates, will take part in the Water Festival at Daegu Samsung Lions Park from Aug. 4 to 9 and run on-site events.
A Samsung Lions x Ryan collaboration merchandise line released in July previously drew lines from 5 a.m. at an offline team store. At the Lions team store online mall on Kakao Entertainment's fan platform Berriz, key items sold out right after launch, including cheering clappers that were gone within 1 second of sales opening.
Kakao said a shared narrative between Ryan, marking its 10th anniversary this year, and Daegu Samsung Lions Park, marking its 10th anniversary since opening, helped drive fandom purchases. Additional pre-orders are under way at fans' request for 5 popular items including cheering clappers, plush key rings, plush headbands, stress-ball key rings and a marking kit.
Ryan will visit Samsung Lions Park again, following a visit on July 16. At the Aug. 4 game, it will appear with the ceremonial first-pitch thrower and accompany the first pitch. During the Water Festival period, the stadium screen is set to air short-form videos themed around Ryan shooting a water gun.
Kakao is rolling out anniversary content such as edition products and emoji releases to mark Ryan's 10th anniversary this year, while expanding its character intellectual property into areas including sports and lifestyle.
A Kakao official said, "We are happy that Ryan and Samsung Lions Park, both marking their 10th anniversaries, can come together to provide baseball fans with a different kind of enjoyment and a narrative." The official added, "We hope spectators will make cool and fun summer in-person baseball memories with Ryan at this week's Water Festival as well."
