Shiba Inu (SHIB) developers again reaffirmed their commitment to the project ahead of the token’s sixth anniversary.

Blockchain outlet U.Today reported on July 27 that Shiba Inu developers said “the experiment continues” during a recent price surge.

The message came as Shiba Inu showed relatively strong momentum among the top 30 tokens. Still, it has fallen 5.59 percent over the past week in a short-term correction. The price remains about 95 percent below its all-time high (ATH) set in October 2021.

Shiba Inu was launched on Aug. 1, 2020 by an anonymous developer, Ryoshi, as an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token. Its launch structure was simple. It issued 1,000 quadrillion SHIB and set up a liquidity pool on Uniswap. Half of the total supply was sent to Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. It was also mentioned that transferring a large amount to Buterin was intended to show sufficient decentralisation had been achieved.

Shiba Inu drew little attention in its early months. The shift came in 2021. Shiba Inu began to attract interest from early that year. In May, Buterin burned 41 percent of the total supply and donated 50 trillion tokens, pushing it into the market spotlight. The then little-known memecoin quickly gained mainstream recognition.

The peak came in the October 2021 bull market. Shiba Inu posted a sharp rally and at one point surpassed Dogecoin (DOGE) by market capitalisation. The rapid rise was also described as defying the expectations of market participants who had been sceptical.

The trend later reversed. Shiba Inu’s upward momentum weakened and it has posted relatively sluggish performance for more than 4 years. The market has pointed to the large token supply, a lack of clear real-world use cases and saturation in the memecoin market as structural burdens for Shiba Inu.

The recent rebound is therefore seen as revealing both short-term price moves and long-term challenges at the same time. The Shiba Inu team stressed ahead of the sixth anniversary that the experiment continues, but what the market will watch is whether the message can translate into project sustainability beyond a price rebound. Whether Shiba Inu can regain mainstream attention as it once did, and how it overcomes limits in supply structure and utility, remain key points to watch.
