Elice Group, an AI full-stack company, said on Wednesday it will take part in the 'Busan Shipbuilding and Marine Edge AI Data Center (DC) Construction Project' led by the Busan headquarters of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation.
The project is one of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s '2026 industrial complex edge AIDC pilot demonstration projects'. It will build an edge AIDC at the Busan shipbuilding and marine industrial complex that uses both GPUs and domestically made NPUs to support AI transformation (AX) for resident manufacturers.
Elice Group will supply two units of its modular AI data centre, the 'Elice AI PMDC', and its AI cloud infrastructure virtualization solution, 'ECI'.
ECI integrates and manages different AI accelerator resources, including GPUs and NPUs, and allocates them by task. Elice Group plans to use it to create a low-latency, high-efficiency AI computing environment for manufacturing sites.
The data centre will be operated so that GPUs handle training and validation of manufacturing AI models and high-performance computing, while domestically made NPUs handle inference and software-as-a-service (SaaS). Elice Group plans to take charge of building and operating AI infrastructure based on domestically made AI semiconductors and support on-site deployment of manufacturing AI services and the spread of Korea’s AI semiconductor ecosystem.
Elice Group explained that the project will secure its first commercial reference for supplying an AI PMDC and ECI integrated package, which it has validated on its own AI cloud, 'Elice Cloud', to external customers.
It will also build the edge AI data centre as a disaster recovery (DR) system linked to Elice Cloud. It will apply an uninterruptible power supply structure and a redundant security system so it can provide AI services stably even when failures occur.
Elice Group CEO Jaewon Kim (김재원) said, "AI infrastructure competitiveness lies in the organic combination of a data centre that can accommodate high-performance hardware and operating software that controls it efficiently." He added, "This project will be the first case of applying an AI PMDC and ECI integrated package, validated on our own AI cloud, to industrial sites, and will serve as an opportunity to contribute not only to AI transformation in manufacturing but also to the spread of the domestically made AI semiconductor ecosystem."
