Qualcomm is expanding the scope of cooperation by supplying its chips for Samsung's entire new lineup of smartphones, watches and smart glasses. Qualcomm Technologies said on Wednesday at a Samsung Unpacked event that Snapdragon 8 Elite 5th Gen for Galaxy, Snapdragon Wear Elite and Snapdragon AR1 1st Gen will be installed in Samsung's new lineup. The products include Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8, Galaxy Watch9 and Watch Ultra2, and next-generation intelligent eyewear.
Snapdragon 8 Elite 5th Gen for Galaxy is based on the Qualcomm Oryon CPU, a mobile CPU designed by Qualcomm. It will be installed in the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 and supports intelligent cameras, gaming and AI-based connectivity features. Qualcomm stressed that the chip secures both top-tier industry performance and power efficiency.
This is the first time a Snapdragon chip is being installed in Samsung smartwatches. Snapdragon Wear Elite will go into the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and supports sensor fusion technology that integrates and processes data from multiple sensors. Qualcomm explained that this enables the two products to continuously collect users' health data and provide personalised health information.
In the eyewear segment, cooperation among Qualcomm, Samsung and Google expanded. Based on intelligent eyewear equipped with Snapdragon AR1 1st Gen, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on Wednesday unveiled 2 new designs in a collection scheduled for release this autumn.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon (크리스티아노 아몬) said, "We are entering a new AI era in which AI is embedded in personal devices in people's daily lives." He added, "I find it meaningful that, based on the innovation we have achieved together with Samsung over more than 30 years, we are creating together a new standard for next-generation mobile experiences."
Samsung Electronics MX Division development chief and chief operating officer Choi Won-jun (최원준) said, "The new Galaxy lineup is the result of close engineering collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies." He added, "By optimising the Snapdragon platform for each Galaxy form factor, the two companies secured the core performance and power efficiency needed to realise the Galaxy AI experience." He added, "Based on this, users can enjoy a consistent premium Galaxy experience across smartphones, watches and smart glasses."
