Uracle, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform company, said on Tuesday it has launched a command-line interface (CLI) version of its AI coding assistant tool, Athena Code Assistant.

The company said the CLI version is designed to work in terminal environments where users operate only with commands and no mouse, such as closed-network settings in the financial sector. It allows users to create, modify and review code directly within a terminal window even in environments where installing a dedicated development program is difficult.

It can also understand specialised development languages widely used by banks, such as Pro*C, as well as existing Unix commands such as grep and awk, allowing companies to connect it to their existing work practices and automation systems.

The default is an on-premises setup installed directly in a client company's data centre without an internet connection, and it also supports closed networks in fully disconnected, air-gapped environments. Because source code and AI conversations are not leaked outside the company, it meets strict adoption requirements in finance, public and defence sectors where exporting code is strictly prohibited.

Uracle CEO Tae-il Kwon (권태일) said, "While the backbone of domestic IT, including banks' core systems and public administration networks, still runs in terminal environments, global AI coding tools have turned away from this field." He added, "Through a CLI version that works as-is in closed-network terminal environments, we will take the lead in demand for automation of terminal-based work environment system operations."
