The National Science Museum said on July 21 that Lee Eun-young (이은영) has taken office as its 47th director-general. Lee is the first woman to lead the museum since it opened.

Lee entered public service through the 43rd civil service examination. She graduated from Seoul National University and received a master's degree in public administration from the London School of Economics. After becoming the first woman to be promoted to director at the Ministry of Science and ICT, she served as head of the Convergence Technology Division, head of the Future Technology Division, head of the Software Industry Division, head of the Performance Evaluation Policy Division and director-general for Research Performance Innovation.

In her inaugural address, Lee said she will make the National Science Museum a platform linking science and technology with the public and a museum that all generations want to visit again. She presented key directions including expanding visitor-led experiences, responding to a super-aged society and preparing for the museum's 100th anniversary, and fostering a communication-centered organizational culture.

The National Science Museum plans to expand hands-on exhibitions and education programs that allow visitors to operate exhibits themselves and understand scientific principles. Beyond reaching 1,000,000 annual visitors, it will define the museum's role in line with demographic changes and pursue convergence with other fields such as arts and culture.

Lee said she will pool wisdom with staff so the public can enjoy science and technology easily and with pleasure. She said she will do her best so the National Science Museum can foster future scientific talent and leap forward into a world-class science museum loved by the public.
