Musinsa is expanding its social contribution activities by doubling the scale of support for orthopedic shoes for people with mobility impairments from a year earlier. Musinsa said on July 15 it is making and providing custom orthopedic shoes for people with walking disabilities through the MUVE project, which it operates in a public-private partnership with the Seongdong-gu Office and the Miral Welfare Foundation.
Eligible recipients are people with disabilities who cannot wear ready-made shoes due to congenital or acquired impairment or deformity in foot function, or differences in the length of both feet. The orthopedic shoes are handmade after precise measurement of each person’s foot shape. Based on a public-private business agreement signed in 2024, Musinsa has supported the full production cost each year. This year it set the number of people to be supported at 20 to broaden the scope of beneficiaries.
The collaboration partner is Haram Workshop, a specialist orthopedic shoe manufacturer in the handmade shoe street in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, where Musinsa’s headquarters is located. In the first round of recruitment held in April, 10 people were selected, ranging from teenagers to middle-aged adults across the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon. They have completed detailed measurements, including foot-shape measurement and gait scanning, and have entered the production process, with sequential delivery planned to be completed by the end of this month.
A Musinsa official said, "It is meaningful because it can guarantee practical freedom of movement for underprivileged neighbors who face difficulties in walking, while also supporting local small business owners and the ecosystem of the handmade shoe industry." The official added, "After completing the first round of production without setbacks by the end of July, we will launch a second call for applicants for the second half of the year in August to continue activities for regional coexistence."
