ITCen CTS builds supercomputer for KAERI V-SMR development

ITCen CTS said on July 14 it has completed the introduction of a large GPU cluster platform and system build-out for the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute’s “supercomputer build project for development of the SMR virtual reactor platform (V-SMR)”.

The project is part of the government-led “Global TOP strategic research group” programme. Three government-funded research institutes are participating, including the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). It is set to be carried out in stages through 2029.

The supercomputer build project was carried out to support high-reliability reactor simulation, a key element of small modular reactors (SMRs), through an NVIDIA H200-based GPU cluster.

ITCen CTS stressed that it did more than simply install GPU servers for simulation. It said it designed and built an “AI infrastructure management” environment that can stably handle the institute’s large-scale research workloads.

Young-su Nam (남영수), a vice president at ITCen CTS, said the project proves ITCen CTS is a “full-stack service partner” that goes beyond being a simple hardware supplier and supports customers’ AI journey from start to finish. He said the company will build an AI infrastructure service standard that domestic companies and public institutions can trust, based on proven infrastructure capabilities and its own operations platform.
