KakaoGames said on July 13 that its flagship massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Odin: Valhalla Rising, or Odin, reached No. 1 in Google Play sales rankings after its fifth anniversary update.
Odin recorded No. 1 in Apple’s App Store sales rankings immediately after the fifth anniversary update carried out on June 24. It then stayed in the top three on Google Play for about two weeks, rose to No. 1 on the evening of July 10, and has remained near the top since.
The sales rebound came as a large-scale, user-focused content update drew a positive response. Through the fifth anniversary update, KakaoGames introduced a new job-change class, the Alchemist, rolled out a large-scale player-versus-player (PvP) mode called the World Outpost Occupation Battle, and added a new server, Skadi. It also launched support measures to help character growth and anniversary events at the same time, driving user inflows.
To mark reaching No. 1 in sales rankings on both major app marketplaces, KakaoGames will run a special login reward event. Users who log into the game during the period will receive various in-game items, including an 11-time Radiance avatar and mount summon selection ticket, an 11-time Radiance weapon appearance summon ticket, and 11 11-time Radiance pet summon tickets.
A KakaoGames official said, "Thanks to the support from many users for the new content and server introduced for Odin’s fifth anniversary, we were able to achieve the result of reaching No. 1 in sales on both major marketplaces." The official added, "We will continue to repay users with content and services that meet their expectations."
