KT said on Saturday that its KT AI Station won a champion award in the access to information and knowledge category at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize 2026 ceremony.
The WSIS Prize is the most prestigious awards programme in the information society field organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Winners are selected from 1,595 projects submitted worldwide through an online vote and expert review. At this year's ceremony held in Geneva on Thursday local time, KT was the only winner from South Korea.
KT AI Station is a mobile AI education platform run to help narrow the digital divide and strengthen AI capabilities for future generations. From 2025, it visits schools and local communities in areas with limited access to AI education, including remote islands and mountain regions, to help teenagers experience AI technology and AI ethics.
KT's education programme last year operated in 21 regions and 19 schools nationwide, with 1,797 teenagers taking part. Satisfaction scores from participating students and teachers were 4.77 out of 5 and 4.94 out of 5, respectively. Digital ethics awareness improvement also scored 4.84.
KT previously won a WSIS Prize champion award in 2024 for its KT Digital Citizen project in the ethical dimensions of the information society (C10) category. With the latest award, it became the only South Korean private company to be named a WSIS Prize champion twice.
Lee Jung-woo (이정우), an executive director in charge of KT's ESG promotion, said, "We will continue to expand AI education opportunities through AI Station so that teenagers can properly understand AI and use it safely."
