KT said on Saturday it has formed an "Information Protection Advisory Committee" to improve its security posture and strengthen pre-emptive, prevention-focused information protection governance.

The advisory committee consists of experts in policy and systems, technology and security, industry and services, and AI and zero trust. They will objectively review KT's information protection strategy and key policies and present measures to respond to future security threats.

Its inaugural members include Park Choon-sik (박춘식), a director at the Korea Zero Trust Security Association; Jung Eun-soo (정은수), a professor in the Department of Digital Security at Cheongju University; Kwak Jin (곽진), a professor in the Department of Cyber Security at Ajou University; Yoon Myung-geun (윤명근), a professor in the School of Artificial Intelligence at Kookmin University; Kim Hong-sun (김홍선), an adviser at Kim & Chang; Park Cheol-jun (박철준), a professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Kyung Hee University; and Choi Kwang-hee (최광희), an adviser at law firm Shin & Kim.

The committee will advise on measures including strategies to respond to future security threats such as AI-based attacks and misuse of generative AI. It will also advise on adopting AI security technologies, advancing a zero-trust-based authentication, access control and monitoring system, responding to advanced persistent threats and ransomware, and measures to prevent security breaches and prevent recurrence. It will review compliance with the Information and Communications Network Act and global regulations, and discuss ways to expand cooperation with industry, academia, government and the security ecosystem.

KT plans to strengthen AI security and cloud and network security capabilities in line with an environment where AI and cloud transition are ramping up in earnest, and to establish a zero-trust-based security system.

Earlier, KT established a "Personal Information Protection Advisory Committee" specialised in the area of personal information protection in the first half. While the personal information protection committee addresses the legality of personal information processing, the appropriateness of data use and customer information protection policies, the information protection committee will be responsible for companywide information security strategy, including responses to security breaches and security technology innovation.

KT Chief Executive Park Yoon-young (박윤영) said, "Information protection in the era of AI transition goes beyond the realm of technology and is the most basic promise a company makes to customers." He added, "We will turn experts' insights into action and complete a zero-trust-based, pre-emptive prevention system."
