Hanwha Q CELLS is expanding its business in the U.S. renewable energy market, leveraging its engineering, procurement and construction capabilities. Hanwha Q CELLS, the Q CELLS division of Hanwha Solutions, said on Thursday it will carry out EPC work for Atlas Energy Park in La Paz County, Arizona, one of the largest renewable energy projects in the United States, and has recently completed the sale of part of the assets.
Atlas Energy Park is a complex comprising 14 solar and ESS projects. By 2028, it is set to include 2.8 GW of solar power plants and 5.7 GWh of energy storage. The site covers 63.66 square km, about 22 times the size of Yeouido, and is considered the largest renewable energy complex built in the United States.
Hanwha Q CELLS will be solely responsible for EPC for all projects within Atlas Energy Park and will supply all solar modules. Of these, 2 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 357 MW, which Hanwha Q CELLS carried out directly from initial development through EPC, were sold in May. It is seen as reaffirming its capabilities spanning development, construction and sale.
Hanwha Q CELLS can supply modules steadily by operating the vertically integrated solar manufacturing complex, Solar Hub, in Georgia. It has also established a local U.S. supply chain for ESS equipment. Using domestically produced equipment can qualify projects for benefits such as the investment tax credit, or ITC, and the domestic content bonus credit, or DCBC, which is cited as a reason Hanwha Q CELLS is chosen by multiple developers.
Hanwha Q CELLS plans to pursue projects across the United States, including solar power generation as well as ESS projects that reduce grid burden and buffer load fluctuations, in response to rising power demand driven by the spread of artificial intelligence data centres. It has continued solar and ESS EPC business in the United States since 2017. As of 2026, renewable energy EPC projects it has completed or is pursuing in North America exceed 11 GW of solar and 6 GWh of ESS.
Chris Hodrick (크리스 호드릭), head of Hanwha Q CELLS' EPC business division, said, "Atlas Energy Park is a symbolic project that once again demonstrates Hanwha Q CELLS' EPC execution capabilities, its local U.S. supply chain, and its comprehensive business capabilities spanning development, construction and asset sales." He added, "We will continue to enhance customer value and business competitiveness with integrated solutions combining solar and ESS, and lead the growth of the North American renewable energy market."
