[Digital Today reporter Seung-ah Yoo] The possibility has been raised that Apple may unveil three iOS 27 features it did not reveal at WWDC 2026 this fall.
On June 14 (local time), foreign media including the IT outlet 9to5Mac reported that Apple is expected to introduce by September expanded integration of Siri with external artificial intelligence (AI), a user-customizable camera application (app) and a new Apple Watch watch face.
At this WWDC, Siri AI and operating system stability improvements were presented as key tasks. Some features Apple had been preparing internally were not revealed at the event, and it has been suggested they could be unveiled with a follow-up software update or alongside new product announcements.
The most closely watched feature is a change in how Siri connects with external chatbots. Siri currently supports ChatGPT under a partnership with OpenAI signed in 2024. Apple’s direction for iOS 27, however, is to provide an expandable API that allows apps to connect directly to Siri, rather than signing separate contracts with individual companies.
In that case, other AI chatbots such as Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude could be integrated with Siri under the same structure, not only ChatGPT. That differs from the existing OpenAI partnership model. Because the structure would have apps directly integrated with Siri instead of separate contracts with each company, it has also been suggested that the same level of personal information protection as in the initial ChatGPT partnership may not be applied.
Apple is also said to be working on shifting ChatGPT to the new integration structure. Actual implementation has not yet taken place.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, an Apple source, presented several possibilities behind the delay. He cited reasons including potential conflicts with the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA) response strategy, the risk that Siri AI’s presence could weaken if external AI models draw attention first, the possibility of legal disputes with OpenAI, and the prospect that the structure could become complicated if cooperation with Gemini is added.
A revamp of the camera app is also being mentioned as one of the unannounced features. Apple is said to have prepared a fully customizable camera app in iOS 27 that allows users to freely change the position of shooting control buttons, but it was not included in the first developer beta version. Instead, a Siri-use function within the camera app has already been reflected.
The industry is focusing on the possibility that the feature will be released alongside the iPhone 18 Pro to be unveiled in September. It is interpreted as a strategy to maximise the effect of the announcement by improving camera usability together with new hardware products.
A new watch face for Apple Watch is also cited as a feature whose release has been delayed. Apple is reported to be developing a simplified version of the 'Modular Ultra' watch face exclusive to Apple Watch Ultra. It would keep the large time display structure while excluding a second line of complication information. The feature was also not revealed at WWDC, but is likely to be unveiled in September alongside the next-generation Apple Watch.
Overall, these unannounced features are being interpreted as more than simple additions, and as tied to Apple's product integration strategy. Siri shows the possibility of moving from a closed partnership structure to an expandable integration structure, while the camera app and watch face are interpreted as a user experience revamp strategy aligned with the launch schedules of the next iPhone and Apple Watch.
Whether Apple will actually unveil these features at its September software update and new product launch event is emerging as the next point to watch.
