Kakao Ventures is developing an in-house communication platform exclusively for limited partners (LPs) as it moves to streamline fund operations and strengthen communications.

Kakao Ventures said on June 15 it has started a beta service for its LP communication platform, KV Partners.

KV Partners is a platform that allows users to check in real time the status of assigned funds, overviews of portfolio companies and the latest information. It is designed to let LPs directly access fund-related information when they want, moving away from the previous approach of receiving semiannual reports and searching through hundreds of pages of documents. Its feature is that users can comprehensively grasp company-by-company growth trends and fund status on one screen.

The platform is the company’s second in-house developed solution following its internal artificial intelligence (AI) integrated work tool, Kabenui Sup. After improving internal work efficiency through Kabenui Sup, it expanded its in-house solution into the LP communication area. The plan aims to secure efficiency in advance as the number of funds and the scale of LPs grow. It is currently in beta testing and will be operated first for some LPs before being officially released in the third quarter of this year.

Founded in 2012, Kakao Ventures has produced unicorn companies across various industries such as mobile, platforms, AI and semiconductors. Dunamu, Karrot, Korea Credit Data, Shift Up and Rebellions joined the ranks of unicorns after the firm continued follow-on investments by growth stage even after investing at the pre-seed stage. Over the past 5 years, it has recovered an average of 150 billion won each year and expects to reap more than 300 billion won this year. It is also steadily increasing the share of external contributions, including the 11th Startup Korea Fund formed last year.

Kakao Ventures plans to upgrade the platform by reflecting LP feedback during the beta operation period. It explained that, as it has consistently built up performance in pre-seed investments, the next step is to create a structure in which LPs can more closely check the investment process and results.

A Kakao Ventures official said, "We think the essence of fund management is how we cultivate a relationship of trust with investors as much as investment performance," adding, "Through KV Partners, we will create an environment where investors can closely watch and support the growth process of portfolio companies."
