[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Microsoft on June 2 unveiled a new operating system, Project Solara, tailored for AI agents at its annual Build 2026 developer conference in San Francisco.
Reports said Project Solara is designed on Android rather than Windows. It is focused on running AI agents across devices in various forms, including smart speakers, security badges and earbuds.
Microsoft also showcased two concept devices. One of them, the desk concept, is similar to Amazon Echo Show in allowing users to unlock it with facial recognition and access AI agents.
Microsoft also introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, equipped with an Nvidia RTX Spark chip and 128GB unified memory.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (사티아 나델라) said in the Build keynote speech that the company would expand the Windows AI API to more PCs. It supports CPU, GPU and NPU.
