OpenAI is strengthening its push to target enterprise customers by adding 6 job-specific plugins and new features to Codex. TechCrunch reported on June 2 that the update is focused on broadening Codex use from developers to office work overall.

OpenAI introduced 6 plugins for data analysis, creative production, sales, product design, stock investing and investment banking within the Codex app. Each plugin is designed to help carry out a specific job by bundling role-based integration functions, guidance and context information. Users can boost performance by customizing settings, but the plugins can be used immediately in their default state.

OpenAI also released an internal report on Codex usage. Codex weekly active users have topped 5,000,000, and have risen more than sixfold since the desktop app launched in February. Developers are still the largest user group, but knowledge workers account for about 20 percent of total users and are growing more than three times faster, the company said.

It also added new features. The "Sites" feature supports sending Codex outputs to a website rather than a local file, and OpenAI is working with Wix, Base44, Replit, Lovable, Figma and Emergent for this. It plans to further expand its partner ecosystem.

The "Annotation" feature lets users select specific parts of documents or files within Codex, supporting more specific commands and context work.
