[Digital Today intern reporter Kyung-min Hong] Apple is expected to apply a new color lineup to the iPhone 18 Pro, including dark cherry and light blue.
On May 29 (local time), IT outlet 9to5Mac reported that a recently revealed iPhone 18 Pro dummy unit showed details of Apple’s planned color lineup.
The dummy unit was reported to support the possibility of four colors: dark cherry, black, silver and light blue. It was introduced via Sonny Dickson (소니 딕슨), who has consistently provided information about new Apple products, and is being accepted in the industry as highly reliable early information.
The color information did not emerge overnight. Bloomberg previously reported in February that Apple was testing a Deep Red color for the iPhone 18 Pro. In April, a more detailed color lineup including Pantone information was additionally disclosed, and the overall outline began to take shape. It was reported to include a combination of four colors: light blue, dark cherry, silver and black. The latest dummy unit release is the point at which such information was made concrete in the form of an actual product. The release served as an occasion to more clearly confirm the actual color lineup as an extension of this flow of information.
This time, detailed information on each color was also confirmed, making the features of the new lineup clearer. According to the disclosed details, light blue is Pantone 2121 and is known to have a tone similar to Mist Blue used on the current base-model iPhone 17. Dark cherry is Pantone 6076 and was described as a dark red tone reminiscent of wine rather than a bright red. Silver is Pantone 427C and was reported to follow a direction similar to the current iPhone 17 Pro’s silver and white design. Black was introduced as a dark gray tone based on Pantone 426C, raising the possibility it could replace the existing deep blue.
These details show the background to changes across the lineup and support a shift in color strategy from the previous model. The iPhone 17 Pro was released in three colors: cosmic orange, deep blue and silver, and cosmic orange in particular gained strong popularity, prompting speculation it would be kept for the next model. But the dummy unit appeared not to include that color. Instead, black is newly added and is expected to replace deep blue. With light blue joining as a new color, the overall choices could expand to four. While some consumers may feel disappointed by the exclusion of cosmic orange, there is also expected to be a considerable response welcoming the return of black after a long time.
It is also necessary to note that dummy unit information does not fully guarantee the final product design. Dummy units are mainly used by case makers in developing and testing accessories to fit new iPhone specifications, and there remains a possibility of some differences from the colors of the actual released product. Even so, the latest reveal contains the most specific information so far on the iPhone 18 Pro color lineup and is being assessed as a key clue to gauge the direction of the new product’s design.
