LGU+ has switched its in-house wireless network to the next-generation standard Wi-Fi 7 and carried out a full overhaul of its authentication method and network structure.

LGU+ said on May 31 it built a single companywide network environment to boost employees' work productivity and mobility. It said employees can continue working without speed slowdowns or connection drops even when offices are crowded.

Wi-Fi 7 improves wireless performance through features such as Multi-Link Operation, which connects to multiple frequencies simultaneously, and an ultra-wideband 320 MHz channel. The company expects it will also help build a smart office environment that allows freer movement and space reconfiguration as reliance on wired networks declines.

It also removed the inconvenience of having to run a separate program and log in each time to connect. A certificate-based automatic access system connects devices to the internal network automatically without a separate login. A dedicated wireless network for building visitors was also built to improve the collaboration environment.

A key feature of the change is a full overhaul of the network structure. LGU+ integrated its wireless authentication system and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) IP allocation system, shifting networks previously operated separately by building to a single companywide IP system. Employees can work in the same environment at other buildings without network re-authentication.

The wireless network infrastructure was built based on a central data centre. It will start this year at the Yongsan, Magok and Sangam buildings and expand to sites nationwide later. It was also designed so the same environment can be extended to regional business sites by installing additional wireless access points and power supply equipment.

Kwak Hyo-shin (곽효신), head of LGU+'s Architecture Lab, said, "This Wi-Fi 7 switch is an infrastructure innovation that shifts the work environment to being wireless-centric." He added, "We will continue to strengthen network competitiveness suited to AI and cloud-based work environments."
