Weverse Company has appointed Yang Ju-il (양주일) as its new chief executive and will move to upgrade its global fandom platform services.

Weverse Company said on Tuesday it had appointed Yang as its new chief executive. Yang is scheduled to officially take office on June 1. The appointment was made as part of a growth strategy to further upgrade fandom platform services and strengthen business execution.

Yang is a developer-turned-executive with experience across web and mobile platforms. He began as a developer at NHN and later served as chief executive of NHN Ticketlink, NHN Bugs and NHN Tour Doctor. He then held roles including vice president at Kakao, chief executive of Ground X and chief executive of AXZ, working in content and platform service operations and strategy.

Weverse Company cited Yang's broad experience across IT fields including portals, music, messaging and ticketing services as the reason for the appointment.

Weverse is a platform that provides services needed for fandom activities, including community services that connect artists and fans, media content, official merchandise sales and real-time live streaming.

Since its launch in June 2019, about 180 artist teams have joined the platform and cumulative app downloads have surpassed 150 million. More than 10 million people log in each month from 245 countries and regions worldwide. As it marks its eighth year of service, Weverse plans to focus on securing service leadership in global markets and upgrading its business.

Weverse Company said, "The experience accumulated by the new CEO Yang across various IT service fields will help Weverse leap to the next stage." It added, "Through this, we plan to focus on setting a new standard in the global fandom platform market and establishing a sustainable growth structure."
