Choi Hyun-ah, senior researcher at KISA

Choi Hyun-ah (최현아), a senior researcher on the Internet Address Policy Team at the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), was elected as a member of the United Nations (UN) Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG).

The Internet Governance Forum is a UN-affiliated international meeting held once a year since 2006. It is a discussion body in which a range of stakeholders, including governments, the private sector, civil society and international organisations, take part to address internet development and global internet public policy issues.

Choi has handled international cooperation work in internet address policy and internet governance at KISA. She has built expertise in global internet policy by running next-generation talent development programmes such as the Asia-Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) and serving as a member of the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), KISA said.

Following her election to the advisory body, Choi is expected to take part in key discussions on global internet governance, including identifying agenda items and shaping the programme for the 21st meeting to be held in Kenya in December.

Park Jung-seop (박정섭), head of the Korea Internet Information Center at KISA, said the election was significant because it means a South Korean expert will directly participate in forming international internet policy agendas. KISA will continue to cooperate with the international community to contribute to global discussions and raise South Korea's international standing, he said.
