Kakao will provide senior-tailored education to help narrow regional digital gaps by sharply increasing the share of programmes outside the Seoul metropolitan area and adding an artificial intelligence curriculum.

Kakao Impact Foundation said on May 4 it will run the "2026 Travelling Senior Digital School" for seniors nationwide. The programme will be operated for 3,000 people at 150 institutions nationwide, and 353 institutions applied in an open call, recording a 2.5 to 1 competition ratio.

This year, it expanded the share outside the Seoul area from 50 percent to 70 percent. The curriculum newly introduces AI training, including "ChatGPT for Kakao", in addition to existing basic digital courses. It will also run an interactive programme called "AI Golden Bell" linked to a competition hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

On-site training will be handled exclusively by 120 senior teachers with professional capabilities. In the second half of this year, it also plans to publish a book containing ways to use digital tools such as AI to support continued learning after the training.

From September to November, it will run a financial education programme called "Sagaksagak Pay School" at 50 institutions nationwide for about 1,000 people, promoting how to use Kakao Pay and how to prevent financial fraud.

The programme, launched in 2024 as part of Kakao Group's environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities, has drawn a cumulative 7,000 participants so far.

Ryu Seok-young (류석영), chairman of Kakao Impact Foundation, said, "This year's Travelling Senior Digital School goes beyond basic digital education to expand into AI use, and it concentrated educational resources around digitally underserved regions." He said, "We plan to continue various efforts to help seniors use AI more easily and familiarly, and to contribute to realising AI for everyone."
