LG Uplus has launched a new application service that allows its IPTV service U+tv to be used on mobile devices.

LG Uplus on Wednesday launched U+tv Mobile, an IPTV-only mobile service that combines content discovery and information checks, mobile viewing, TV-to-mobile continue watching and remote control functions in a single app. Users can check basic information on U+tv content such as movies, dramas and entertainment programmes, as well as cast, release year, cumulative audience, trailers, OST, ratings and reviews.

Connecting TV and mobile also expands the viewing experience. Users can continue content they were watching on mobile on TV from the same point, or continue content they were watching on TV on mobile. U+tv plan information, VOD purchase history and viewing and favourites lists can also be checked on mobile. The phone can also be used like a remote control without a physical remote.

Users can check real-time channel schedules on mobile and reserve programmes they want. They also receive key updates via mobile notifications, including price cuts on favourited content, new VOD updates and coupon issuance and expiry.

LG Uplus plans to end its existing U+mobiletv service at the end of May and to make the process from content discovery to viewing more intuitive through U+tv Mobile.

Jin-i Jung (정진이), head of the Home and Media Product Tribe at LG Uplus, said U+tv Mobile was not simply moving IPTV to mobile but connecting content discovery through viewing and management in a single flow. She said the company would continue to upgrade the service to differentiate the IPTV user experience.
