Uber has introduced a feature that lets users book hotels directly in its app. The move expands its service beyond ride-hailing to the broader travel experience, TechCrunch reported on April 29.
According to the report, Uber unveiled the feature at its annual Go-Get event in New York. It partnered with travel platform Expedia Group to support bookings at more than 700,000 hotels worldwide. Expedia is the company that Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi (다라 코스로샤히) led for 12 years.
Members of Uber’s subscription service Uber One can get a 20 percent discount at 10,000 hotels and earn 10 percent in Uber credits on all bookings. Listings from home-sharing startup Vrbo are also set to be added to the app within this year.
Khosrowshahi said, "Uber is no longer a ride-hailing app. It is an app for everything you need to get around, get deliveries and travel."
Uber also introduced AI voice booking and an integrated search feature, in addition to hotel booking. The company said agentic AI tools allowed it to complete the process from idea to launch in just a few months.
Uber Chief Technology Officer Praveen Neppalli Naga (프라빈 네팔리 나가) said, "The way we build software has fundamentally changed over the past few months." He said features such as hotel booking used to take at least a year from development to testing and debugging, but that timeline has now been cut in half, and that speed will increase as more engineers adopt agentic AI workflows.
Uber also introduced a Travel Mode that guides users to tourist attractions and local information at destinations. It applied Travel Mode to Uber Eats as well, adding a Room Service hub that lets users order items they need while traveling.
Uber plans to add restaurant recommendations and a dining reservation feature through OpenTable. It also introduced Eats for the Way, which lets Uber Black customers order drinks or snacks before getting into the car.
