The Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission said on Tuesday it held a launch ceremony and first meeting for a creator media cooperation consultative body at COEX Magok in Seoul.
The body comprises about 20 people, including platform companies such as Google Korea, TikTok and Soop; multi-channel networks (MCNs) such as Sandbox Network and CJ ENM DIA TV; public agencies such as the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency and the Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency; related associations such as the Korea MCN Association and the Korea YouTuber Association; and academic and legal experts. The chair is Yongseok Hwang (황용석), a professor in the Department of Media Communication at Konkuk University.
It will hold regular quarterly meetings or ad hoc meetings to discuss improvements to laws and systems related to the creator media industry, creating a fair trade environment and protecting creators' rights and interests, and linking region-based cooperation models with regional coexistence policies.
Doseong Kang (강도성), director general of the commission's Broadcasting and Media Promotion Bureau, said, "The creator media industry is a key industry that is growing rapidly amid changes in the digital environment." He added, "We will reflect views from the industry in policy and continue institutional improvements to protect the rights and interests of workers and create a fair ecosystem."
