Samsung Electronics put its AI appliance-based, day-to-day service concept "AI Home Companion" at the forefront for North American consumers. Samsung said on April 16 it held an appliance technology seminar, The Brief New York, on April 15 to 16 local time at the CEC (Connected Experience Center) showroom in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and unveiled AI appliance scenarios and a new refrigerator lineup to local media and influencers.
At the event, Samsung introduced its focus on "Home Companion". It described the concept as reducing the burden of housework and improving quality of life by linking daily routines from grocery purchases to cooking and cleaning through AI recognition technology embedded in refrigerators, ovens and robot vacuum cleaners.
AI Vision in the 2026 Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator detects ingredients being placed in and taken out in real time using an internal camera. It recognizes not only fresh and processed foods but also container labels and automatically saves them to a "Food List". Users can check what is in the refrigerator while away from home, reducing duplicate purchases, the company said.
The Bespoke AI Oven supports an "AI Pro Cooking" function. It recognizes ingredients through an internal camera and suggests cooking settings, and it detects color changes during cooking and sends a SmartThings alert if overheating risks occur. It also includes a function that creates time-lapse videos of the cooking process for sharing on social media.
Samsung also applied AI recognition technology to cleaning. The 2026 Bespoke AI Steam Ultra robot vacuum cleaner combines an RGB camera sensor with infrared LEDs to detect even transparent liquids. It can avoid or 집중 clean areas that previous products could not recognize.
Samsung also unveiled a refrigerator lineup reflecting North American consumer lifestyles. It includes Space Max, which increases interior storage while keeping the same exterior size; an Auto-fill water purifier that automatically fills large volumes of water; a Beverage Center that places the dispenser inside the showcase; and an ice maker that provides 6 types of ice, including angular cubes and whiskey balls. It also showcased a French-door refrigerator with Zero Clearance technology that can be installed like a built-in with only a 4 mm gap on the left and right.
Moon Jong-seung (문종승), vice president of the DA Division, said, "Samsung Electronics' AI home appliances are evolving into a home companion that understands and helps consumers' lives." He said the company will "actively target the market by implementing specialized functions tailored to North American lifestyles and a distinctive AI ecosystem."
