KB Financial Group said on April 10 that the official video for its public-participation campaign "Rewrite Daehan Lived Again" has topped 10 million cumulative views about a month after its release.
"Rewrite Daehan Lived Again" is a project expanded to mark the 80th anniversary of liberation. It builds on a campaign launched by KB Kookmin Bank in 2019 to revisit the meaning of liberation and the independence movement.
A total of 2,135 entries were submitted through a public contest. Lyricist Sung-il Han (한성일)'s "Ordinary Days" was selected as the top prize winner. Music director Jae-il Jeong (정재일) and singer Juck Lee (이적) participated in the official audio track and video.
KB Financial will set aside 2,026 won per share and like of the video to raise donations. The donations raised by the end of the year are to be used to support small business owners who are descendants of independence patriots.
KB Financial is also preparing a follow-up campaign. It plans to release in May a campaign titled "Ukishima Maru, a Story We Will Remember" that addresses the sinking of the Ukishima Maru that occurred immediately after liberation.
The Ukishima Maru incident refers to an event in which a ship carrying Koreans in Japan who were forcibly mobilised exploded and sank off the coast of Maizuru in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, on Aug. 24, 1945, causing heavy casualties.
KB Financial plans to revisit its historical meaning and broaden social empathy through related content, interviews with bereaved families and on-site reporting.
A KB Financial official said, "We are grateful that there has been a lot of empathy and participation in this campaign," and added, "We ask for continued interest in the donation campaign that runs through the end of the year and the follow-up project."
