Han was delivering mail in the area of Hoehyeon-myeon, Gunsan, in February when he heard a huge explosion. At the scene of the incident, believed to have been a gas explosion, a man in his 60s was collapsed and bleeding heavily from his forehead. Han helped with the rescue effort, including giving first aid to the victim, who was dazed from bleeding and shock.
Park said, "I am proud of postman Han Sang-geun, who protected a precious life through courageous action even at a dangerous scene after an explosion." He said, "Postmen are fulfilling a watchman role throughout our society and delivering a positive influence."
