LG Energy Solution is stepping up its battery software business ahead of the shift to SDVs. LG Energy Solution said on Thursday it joined the in-vehicle software open market SDVerse as the first battery maker. SDVerse is a vehicle software B2B platform established under the leadership of GM, Canada’s Magna International and Wipro.

LG Energy Solution unveiled five software solutions through SDVerse: Battery Platform SW, Safety Diagnostic Calibration Tool, Onboard FRISM, Onboard BLiS and Onboard DASH.

Battery Platform SW redesigns existing BMS technology for the SDV environment and comprehensively analyses key battery indicators such as degradation and lifespan. The Safety Diagnostic Calibration Tool analyses data with its own algorithm and is designed to secure security competitiveness without external dependence.

The other three are algorithm-based software specialised in diagnosing and predicting battery conditions. Onboard FRISM uses machine learning to diagnose battery degradation without cell test data, and Onboard BLiS numerically predicts the degradation process based on a physical model. Onboard DASH quantitatively analyses how a user’s driving and charging habits affect the rate of battery degradation and provides a lifespan management guide based on real-time condition check results.

LG Energy Solution currently provides cloud and AI-based safety diagnostics, degradation and lifespan prediction solutions through its total battery management solution brand B.around, and it also operates the always-on battery diagnostics service B-lifecare and the one-off battery evaluation service B.once. It won the CES Innovation Award in the pure software category in October last year with its Better.Re solution, the first in the battery industry.

Prashant Gulati (프라샨트 굴라티), CEO of SDVerse, said, "We are very pleased to showcase LG Energy Solution’s advanced battery management software and diagnostic technology and battery designs optimised for SDVs on SDVerse." He said LG Energy Solution is contributing to accelerating the development of next-generation electric vehicles by combining deep expertise in batteries with software-based intelligent systems.

Je-young Kim (김제영), CTO of LG Energy Solution, said, "We expect that joining SDVerse will allow us to present the leading battery software capabilities we have built to a broader range of customers." He said the company will further strengthen its technology leadership for the coming SDV era to lead accelerated growth in the electric vehicle and battery markets.
