Smilegate Hope Studio said on Wednesday it will run a donation fundraising campaign, "Play With Community: Support for Children With Cancer," with three communities of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game "Lost Ark."

The campaign will run through Nov. 30. The three communities, including "Loawa," "Lopec" and "Iloa," will encourage participation through their own channels and banners.

The donations are expected to be used in full via the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation for treatment costs for children with cancer and support for shelter operations.

The three Lost Ark communities plan to take part in volunteer work to collect trash along the coast to mark Environment Day on June 5. It is a participatory donation model in which users' online donation experience leads to offline participation.

Choi Jin-il (최진일), head of Loawa, said, "We will ensure that help can be delivered to children patients through the joint donation campaign." He added, "We will create synergy in solving social problems through cooperation with Lopec and Iloa."

Kwon Yeon-ju (권연주), a director at Hope Studio, said, "This is an example of a game community and user participation expanding into social value." She added, "We will work to ensure people can experience donations and volunteer activities through the Hope Studio platform."
