Dongsuh Foods said on Feb. 24 it will use paper recycled from aseptic cartons for packaging of its Maxim Supreme Gold coffee mix to strengthen resource circulation.

Aseptic cartons are mainly used for packaging soy milk or juice. Made of multiple materials such as paper, aluminium and polyethylene, they are difficult to separate, leading to low recycling rates, and most have been discarded.

Dongsuh Foods separated the aluminium layer from aseptic cartons and used only recyclable paper, applying it to Maxim Supreme Gold packaging. The company expects that about 43 tonnes of aseptic cartons will be recycled annually, helping improve resource efficiency.

The recycled paper used for Maxim Supreme Gold is packaging that has obtained GR (Good Recycled) certification. The GR certification is a system in which the government officially certifies the quality and environmental friendliness of recycled products. It means the packaging meets quality standards while using recycled materials.

Dongsuh Foods is expanding eco-friendly packaging. Last year it reduced the amount of ink and organic solvents used for Maxim coffee mix sticks. In 2023 it applied packaging with green technology certification to Maxim coffee mix, Maxim instant coffee refills and cereal products. Since 2021 it has introduced paper handles for large-size Maxim coffee mix products to reduce plastic use.

A Dongsuh Foods official said introducing paper recycled from aseptic cartons for Maxim Supreme Gold coffee mix was an effort to contribute to resource circulation. The official said the company will continue to roll out eco-friendly packaging so consumers can take part in value-based consumption.
