KOSPI on March 24 closed up more than 2 percent to reclaim the 5,550 level. The Kosdaq also rose more than 2 percent, extending a joint rebound.

The KOSPI ended up 148.17 points, or 2.74 percent, at 5,553.92 from the previous session. The index opened at 5,638.20, up 232.45 points, or 4.30 percent, and rose as high as 5,643.00 during the session, but gave up part of its gains in afternoon trade to finish above 5,550.

By investor category, retail investors and institutions both bought. Retail investors were net buyers of 722.8 billion won and institutions bought a net 968.0 billion won. Foreign investors were net sellers of 1.9864 trillion won, taking profits.

Most of the top market-cap stocks rose.

Samsung Electronics rose 1.83 percent to end at 189,700 won and SK Hynix gained 5.68 percent to 986,000 won. Hyundai Motor rose 1.44 percent, LG Energy Solution gained 10.25 percent, SK Square advanced 6.82 percent, Samsung Biologics rose 1.58 percent and Hanwha Aerospace added 4.46 percent. Doosan Enerbility fell 0.60 percent and Kia ended down 2.35 percent.

The Kosdaq ended up 24.55 points, or 2.24 percent, at 1,121.44 from the previous session.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won was trading at 1,495.40 per dollar, down 5.90 won, or 0.40 percent, from the previous session.
