Anthropic has introduced Claude Code Channels, a Telegram and Discord integration for Claude Code, VentureBeat reported on March 20 local time.
Developers can use Claude Channels to issue commands directly to Claude Code through messaging apps while on the move.
Previously, Claude Code could be used only via the desktop app, terminal or supported development environments. It had a mobile connection feature, but it was widely seen as unstable. With the update, developers can send messages to Claude Code via Telegram or Discord and receive results by message when the work is done.
The move is seen as targeting the open-source AI agent OpenClo. OpenClo's popularity has been attributed to letting individuals have an AI worker they can direct around the clock through messaging apps such as iMessage, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp and Discord.
But security risks such as file system access permissions and a high installation difficulty were cited as drawbacks.
According to VentureBeat, some X users responded after the release of Claude Code Channels by saying, "Claude killed OpenClo." AI YouTuber Matthew Berman said, "Anthropic has directly built OpenClo."
