YouTube has launched an AI-based playlist creation feature for Premium users, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 10 local time.

The feature is supported on iOS and Android. Users can enter their desired music style by text or voice, and the AI automatically creates a customised playlist.

By tapping the Create button in the Library tab and selecting the AI Playlist option, the AI recommends music based on the user’s prompt, such as “indie pop” and “1990s classic hit songs”.

YouTube has steadily tested AI-powered music recommendation features. In July 2024, it tested an AI feature in the United States that creates custom radio stations, and competing streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer are also introducing AI-based playlist features. YouTube is also recently conducting an experiment that restricts the lyrics view feature to free users to strengthen its Premium service.
