[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Netand, a company specialising in integrated access control and identity and access management (IAM), said on March 10 it will unveil its Kubernetes access control solution, HIWARE for K8S.

Kubernetes (K8S) has become an orchestration platform that automates the deployment, scaling and management of containerised applications. But if access permissions are managed manually or Kubeconfig files are operated individually, it is difficult to transparently monitor user activity. Security incident risks persist due to excessive permissions or administrators' configuration errors.

Many organisations have experienced security incidents due to inadequate permission management after adopting Kubernetes, Netand said. It added that securing sophisticated access control and visibility for Kubernetes is emerging as an urgent task.

HIWARE for K8S centrally integrates and manages all access and tasks across multi-cluster environments based on a unified process, the company said. It supports a real-time execution control model at the level of API requests, beyond simple allow-and-block access controls.

It also provides a function that automatically deploys, retrieves and renews Kubeconfig distribution and configuration processes, which administrators or users previously carried out directly, in line with central policy.

A Netand official said, "As cloud-native and AI-based services spread, precise access control for Kubernetes is not an option but a necessity." The official added, "Through HIWARE for K8S, which consolidates Kubernetes-specific functions with know-how accumulated in on-premises access control, we will provide consistent control and an audit-response system even in complex multi-cloud environments."
