KakaoWebtoon, Kakao Entertainment’s webtoon platform, said on Sunday it has unveiled a new mobile font based on a popular character toon in collaboration with content creator platform company Sandoll.

Kakao Entertainment released the mobile font “Iam Dust Clump Jjangleok”, produced by Sandoll based on KakaoWebtoon’s character toon “Dust Clump Jjangleok”, on Jan. 30.

The new font features lettering that captures the cute identity of the main character, a kitten named Jjangleok. It uses a stable, square structure that resembles a cat curled up in a box and adds a cosy handwritten texture to enhance completeness.

It also includes various technical features. They include a “hidden dingbat” function that shows character illustrations when specific characters are combined and colour font technology that preserves its distinctive colour tones. The font is exclusive to iPhone (iOS) and can be purchased through the Bakee app for use in KakaoTalk and document apps.

KakaoWebtoon will run an event through March 2 to mark the launch. It will give all readers a 2-week free pass for the new font when they sign up for the Bakee app. It will also offer discounts on 3 font types that match other popular works, including “Horong Porong Cohabitation Diary” and “Meongnyang Family”, and will also hold a cash giveaway promotion.

Kakao Entertainment and Sandoll have maintained a partnership since 2014 to support the creative environment. The two companies plan to continue exploring various businesses after developing the Misaeng typeface and collaborating on emoticons.
