Cybersecurity firm Genians said on Jan. 29 it has officially launched Genian Home, a home network inter-household segmentation security solution.

The company said Genian Home aims to create a safe and reliable residential network environment by providing a VPN- and VLAN-based inter-household network segmentation security solution.

Home networks have structural characteristics that can affect multiple households with a single breach. In particular, in environments where networks between households are not separated, risks can increase of unauthorised access or information leaks via unapproved devices. The spread of smart home devices has also increased network touchpoints, but security management is often handled by non-specialist personnel, making systematic security operations difficult.

Genian Home supports inter-household network segmentation designed for such multi-family housing environments. It logically separates household networks within an apartment complex to minimise unnecessary communication. It focuses on raising overall home network security by controlling direct device-to-device communication and access by unapproved devices. It can be deployed without changes to existing infrastructure and can be applied to both new and existing apartment complexes. The company said it is configured to allow selective application of VPN and VLAN-based technologies depending on complex characteristics and operating environments.

Genian Home VPN applies encrypted communication for each household and access-control policies between households. It strengthens security by controlling unnecessary communication beyond essential home network services and by blocking direct communication between households and access by unapproved devices.

Genians CEO Dong-beom Lee (이동범) said, "Home network security in multi-family housing is an important area that goes beyond simple convenience features and is directly linked to resident safety." He added, "Based on the network access control technology and security operations experience that Genians has accumulated over a long period of time, we wanted to present a practical alternative that can be applied in the field." He said, "Through Genian Home, we will contribute to building a safer residential network environment."
