Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei (다리오 아모데이) has resumed negotiations with the U.S. Defense Department, CNBC reported on March 5, citing the Financial Times.
The Financial Times reported the matter, citing anonymous sources.
Amodei is holding last-minute talks with Emil Michael, the under secretary of defense for research and engineering, the report said. The key issue is under what terms the Defense Department can use Anthropic's Claude model.
Negotiations between Anthropic and the Defense Department collapsed last week. After that, President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to stop using Anthropic tools, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he would designate Anthropic as a supply-chain threat company.
Anthropic previously signed a $200 million contract with the Defense Department and was the first among major AI model companies to deliver Claude to the government's classified network.
Amid this, Anthropic demanded guarantees that its tools would not be used for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons, and the Defense Department has countered that it should be able to use them anywhere as long as the use is lawful.
