Samsung Electronics said on Saturday it will convert its domestic and overseas production plants into AI-driven autonomous factories by 2030. An autonomous factory actively applies AI across all manufacturing processes. Samsung Electronics plans to introduce digital twin-based simulations across all processes from materials receiving to production and shipment, and strengthen data-driven analysis and pre-verification through quality, production and logistics AI agents to innovate quality and productivity across its global production bases.
It plans to expand the application of AI into the environment and safety field to detect risk factors that could arise at production sites in advance and prevent accidents, raising safety standards at manufacturing sites.
Samsung Electronics will also apply "agentic AI," introduced in the Galaxy S26, to manufacturing innovation based on AI experience and technology accumulated in its mobile business. It plans to use AI agents to intelligentise production, facilities, repairs and logistics and strengthen the foundation for site autonomy.
To shift beyond automation to autonomy, Samsung Electronics is also pushing ahead in stages with the introduction of humanoid-type manufacturing robots across all manufacturing processes.
In the future, Samsung Electronics plans to combine AI with operating bots that manage production lines and equipment, logistics bots that handle material transport, and assembly bots that perform assembly processes to create an optimised manufacturing site.
In particular, it plans to apply digital twin-based environment and safety bots to infrastructure facilities where people find it difficult to work due to high temperatures and high noise, strengthening work safety and systematically reducing on-site risks.
Lee Young-soo (이영수), a vice president and head of Samsung Electronics' Production Technology Research Institute, said, "The future of manufacturing innovation goes beyond simple automation, and the key is building an autonomous manufacturing site where AI understands the field and executes optimal decisions on its own." He added, "We will be reborn as a hub of global manufacturing innovation combined with AI."
Samsung Electronics plans to unveil its industrial AI application strategy at MWC26, the world's largest mobile communications industry exhibition, to be held in Barcelona, Spain, and present its digital twin-based manufacturing innovation vision.
At the SMBS (Samsung Mobile Business Summit), held during MWC26, it plans to 발표 a "governance strengthening strategy in line with expanded AI autonomy" in step with the spread of agentic AI use across various industrial areas, including manufacturing sites.
Samsung Electronics plans to promote the spread of industrial AI that customers and partners can trust by embedding safeguards from the design stage along with technological innovation, as autonomy in which AI understands the field and executes optimal decisions on its own becomes key as the scope of industrial AI applications widens.
