The KOSPI broke above the 4,800 mark for the first time intraday.

On Jan. 16, the KOSPI was trading up 0.14 percent at 4,804.25 as of 9:10 a.m. It opened up 0.43 percent at 4,820.66 from the previous session, before the rise eased. It again renewed the intraday record high of 4,797.55 set a day earlier.

The KOSPI has risen for 11 straight sessions, the longest such streak after Sept. 4 to 24, 2019 (13 sessions) and March 23 to April 7, 2006 (12 sessions).

That leaves less than 200 points to the "dream 5,000."
