[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Meta has launched its personal AI agent Muse in Japan, Japan Today reported on Friday. Meta introduced Muse in Japan first among markets outside North America.

According to the report, users can instruct Muse by text or voice through a dedicated smartphone app. Basic functions are free. Connecting Muse to Gmail and Google Calendar allows it to summarise unread emails and manage schedules.

Meta plans to soon connect Muse to the secondhand marketplace service Mercari and the household account book app Money Forward ME. Masahiro Ajisawa (アジ사와 마사히로) , head of Meta's Japan unit, said, "We want to connect Muse with services people use often to help in a wider range of situations."

Users can decide which apps and information Muse can access. Muse can also make suggestions based on previous conversations. Meta said Muse seeks user approval before sending emails or buying items, and cannot view passwords or credit card information.
