Hana Securities' third-quarter profit fell sharply from both the previous quarter and a year earlier. Cumulative results for January to September improved from a year earlier, but profitability slumped in the third quarter as most profit was concentrated in the first half.
Hana Financial Group said on Oct. 23 that its unit Hana Securities posted consolidated net profit of 10.1 billion won for the third quarter of 2026. That was down 94.04 percent from 168.7 billion won in the previous quarter. It was also down 83.88 percent from 62.4 billion won a year earlier.
Operating profit was 21.1 billion won over the same period, down 89.65 percent from the previous quarter and down 67.77 percent from a year earlier.
Continuing profit before income tax was 22.5 billion won. It was down 90.15 percent from the previous quarter and down 64.48 percent from a year earlier.
Net profit attributable to owners of the parent was 10.3 billion won, down 93.93 percent from 169.8 billion won in the previous quarter. It was down 83.59 percent from 62.8 billion won a year earlier.
Revenue was 4.70 trillion won, up 93.68 percent from 2.43 trillion won a year earlier. It fell 59.84 percent from 11.72 trillion won in the previous quarter.
Revenue rose sharply from a year earlier, but profitability appeared to weaken as operating profit and net profit declined. As securities-firm revenue reflects interest income, gains and losses related to financial products, and foreign exchange trading gains, changes in financial product gains and losses and costs may have affected quarterly results.
Cumulative results this year, however, continued to improve.
Hana Securities' January-September cumulative revenue was 25.09 trillion won, up 138.63 percent from a year earlier. Cumulative operating profit rose 98.87 percent to 366.4 billion won.
Continuing profit before income tax rose 97.09 percent to 393.7 billion won, and net profit rose 67.40 percent to 281.6 billion won. Net profit attributable to owners of the parent also rose 67.08 percent to 283.3 billion won.
Third-quarter operating profit of 21.1 billion won accounted for about 5.8 percent of operating profit for the first nine months. Profitability therefore slowed sharply in the third quarter despite growth in annual profit.
The results are preliminary and have not undergone an external auditor's accounting review.
Based on a securities-firm consensus, Hana Financial Group's operating profit for full-year 2026 is expected to rise to 5.93 trillion won from 5.35 trillion won last year. Net profit is seen at 4.45 trillion won, and net profit attributable to owners of the parent at 4.39 trillion won.
Whether Hana Securities rebounds in coming results is expected to depend on fourth-quarter stock market trading value, gains and losses from managing financial products, and profitability improvements in major business areas including investment banking.
